University of Louisville softball defeats Bellarmine in fall opener

On Sept.11, the University of Louisville softball team opened its season by beating Bellarmine two games in a row. The combined score was 12-1.

Head coach Sandy Pearsall expects big things from this year’s team, based on the way they performed in September. “I was excited with the offense that we created today. We struggled early last year so I’m happy with where we started this fall. Our young players were poised [ready] and the older players did a great job with making them feel at ease,” Pearsall said.

The U of L softball team is expected to be a top contender this year. “The girls have a lot of talent and have a strong connection on the field,” Madyson Martin (11) said.

The U of L softball team and many other college teams around the country play a big role in the high school softball teams today. “We can learn a lot from them and if you have any desire to play in college, it shows what you get to look forward to and you can see what you need to work for,” Martin said.

The Cardinals also won two games against Murray State on Sept. 17.
