On January 10, 2012, Louisville’s Garage Bar, located on 700 East Market Street by the 21c Museum Hotel, entered the city of Louisville in Southern Living’s top ten for the South’s Tastiest Town competition.
As of now, Louisville is second in the polls with 135,190 votes, right behind Lafayette, Louisiana by 7,132 votes.
The poll closes today, and the winning city will be announced in Southern Living’s April edition.
Voters are entered in a sweepstakes to win $2,500 and a trip to the tastiest town of their choice.
The Garage Bar is helping to promote Louisville’s local food and unique restaurants like its own restaurant.
The restaurant’s menu changes frequently with the season and the produce from local farmers. Pizza is always an option, made with the same basic ingredients: Antico Molino Caputo 00 flour, San Marzano tomatoes, and Fior di Latte Mozzarella. The oven is always burning at 850 degrees Fahrenheit and was hand-built in Naples, Italy by Stephano Ferrara.
Other items on the menu include Southern-styled hams, oysters, and other native specialties.
“I used to hate think-crust pizza but eating here changed my mind,” Cassidy Hale (11) said. “It’s the only place I’ll get it.”
The Garage Bar is opened seven days a week: Monday through Thursday from 5 P.M. to 10 P.M., Friday from 5 P.M. to 11 P.M., Saturday from 11 A.M. to 11 P.M., and Sunday from 11 A.M. to 10 P.M.
“Garage Bar had amazing and different food. I felt like I was in a real garage,” Kinsey Ball (10) said. “I would definitely vote for it to win.”
“The atmosphere is so much to take in, but the history behind the place is cool,” Mary King (10) said. “I would recommend the burgers to anyone.”
