Boys lacrosse season comes to an end

On tuesday May 7th, the Manual boys lacrosse team played their final game of the season. The lacrosse team lost to Ballard by a score of 15-5 to be eliminated from the district tournament. It was a “win or go home” scenario for both teams and Ballard came out on top after a rough game.

Ballard came out hot scoring two goals in the first four minutes to take an early 2-0 lead over Manual. Then about two minutes later, after a Ballard penalty, Chad Tevebaugh (12) scored the first goal for Manual with about six minutes left in the first quarter. After two more Ballard goals and one more from Tevebaugh, Ballard led Manual 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. “I felt that we did a good job keeping possession and I thought we still had a chance of coming back,” said Brent Wesley (11).

The second quarter was all Ballard. Manual had several attempts to score, but just couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net. Ballard went on a 3-0 run to end the quarter, making the score 7-2 going into halftime.

Manual was stuck at two goals until half way through the third quarter when Brenton Wolford (10) made the score 10-3 Ballard still ahead. Each team scored one more goal before the third quarter ended making the score 11-4 going into the final quarter of the game.

The final quarter was nothing new, with Ballard continuing to control Manual. However, Manual didn’t go down without a fight, according to Manual’s coach Clifford. After the game in the huddle coach said he was proud of the fight the boys gave and they didn’t go down easy. When it was all said and done the final score was 15-5, with Ballard moving on to the district final.

This would be the last high school lacrosse game for many seniors and they had mixed emotions about that. “Manual lacrosse has meant so much to me and its hard to lose like that, I hope the younger kids continue to work hard and go further than we did this year,” said Tevebaugh who had three goals against Ballard.
