On Monday, Oct. 27, Ramstock kicked off Manual’s 2025 Red/White Week events with spirited performances from five bands in the auditorium.
The event started off with Five Finger Discount rocking out to “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus and “Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson. The members of Five Finger Discount are Jayce Osborne (10, YPAS), Maddie Victor (10, YPAS), Emily Tobias (10, YPAS), Shawn “Tank” Stinson (9, YPAS) and Violet Maynard (10, VA).
Next, No Outlet stepped onto the stage for their first time at Ramstock as students throughout the audience raised signs with slogans such as “No Outlet for Ramstock” and “I Rock With No Outlet.” The band included vocalist MJ Alt (11, YPAS), guitarist Victoria Powell (11, YPAS), drummer Noah Fields (12, HSU), bassist Jake Rydberg (12, MST) and keyboardist Tony Aloise (12, YPAS).
“It [performing at Ramstock] feels really exhilarating. I’ve been a performer for a while, but I guess performing in front of a bunch of kids that you know are judging you is a little different than performing in front of complete strangers,” Alt said.
No Outlet’s setlist included the songs “Runaway Baby” by Bruno Mars, “Ain’t It Fun” by Paramore and “Everybody Talks” by Neon Trees.
The Wannabes performed next, with vocals from Elsa Hargis (12, YPAS), Stanley Alvarez (12, HSU) and Tristan Meredith (12, YPAS). The singers were accompanied by guitarists Dylan Feese,a junior at Bullitt East and Nora Wolf (11, HSU). The bassist for the band is Locke Hargis (10, YPAS) and the drummer is Will Naber (10, YPAS). The band, sporting shirts that said “Wannabes World Tour,” played “All My Loving” by the Beatles, “Zip Up My Fly” by Malcolm Todd and “Holiday” by Green Day.
“We did all we can do and I think we all had fun,” Elsa Hargis said.
The alternative rock trio Arhythmia was on deck, performing their original song, “Filthy Mouth”, as well as covers of “Basket Case” by Green Day, “Dance Dance” by Fall Out Boy and “The Jam” by High Fade. The band consisted of bassist and backup vocalist Grant Mulrooney (11, HSU), guitarist and lead vocalist Evan Davis, a senior at Eastern High School, and drummer Sam Smith, a senior at Trinity High School.
“That was probably the biggest adrenaline rush I’ve felt all year,” Smith said.
The event concluded with OUCHH!! playing “Black Sheep” by Metric, “Crybaby” by Destroy Boys and “Misery Business” by Paramore. This is the band’s second year performing at Ramstock. OUCHH!! includes guitarist Ash Bowling (11, HSU), vocalist Cherry Crigler (11, VA), bassist and Manual VA alumni Sam Richardson and drummer Callie Cartwright, an eighth grader at Walden Middle School. Cartwright is the newest member of the band.
Throughout the whole event, every band was met with support from the crowd as students cheered and sang along. Many students enjoyed seeing their friends and classmates perform.
“I love it [Ramstock]. I love all the music, I love to see all my friends play,” Patrick Galla (10, YPAS) said.
Students had the opportunity to vote on which band they believed performed the best.
“I liked Arhythmia the most; I could vibe with them more,” Kennedy Pendleton (11, J&C) said.
The winner of Ramstock is to be announced later this week and will play at the pep rally on Friday, Oct. 31.
