Rockets rose past the Lady Crimsons soccer team

The Assumption Rockets beat the varsity girls’ soccer team 1-0 last night, Aug. 31, at the Assumption Green turf field.

The games start time was originally 7:00 p.m., however, the complex delayed kickoff until 8:15 p.m. due to lightning and rain warnings.

The game started out with Manual having possession of the ball, but Assumption quickly turned on their offense and held pressure.

Manual’s defense was held strong the whole game with many blocks by goalie Autumn Wilding (55, 12) and block tackles by all field players.

Possession of the ball was equal for each team throughout the majority of the game.

Both teams had a couple of breakaways or good plays, but both defenses stayed strong.

The teams battled for the ball during the whole first half, keeping the score at 0-0 by half-time.

Manual had a hard time finishing out plays on their offensive end and couldn’t manage to get a goal in.

“We played really well; we just couldn’t finish [scoring goals] while we did everything else we were supposed to do,” Manual Coach Sheri Kiser said, “We just couldn’t put the ball into the net.”

With 32 minutes left in the game, Riley Ennenbach from Assumption scored, leading Manual 1-0.

“We just got really hyped up. Obviously the delays were kind of mentally messing with us, but I think we got it together before we got out there. We played very organized and as a team,” Assumption goalkeeper Alyssa Campisano (#1) said.

Assumption held offensive possession for the majority of the time, but Manual’s defense held strong the whole time.

“I think they stepped up and won pretty much every 50-50 ball. Our defense killed it and made sure we played most of the game in our offensive half,” Assumption Coach Tammy Hailey said.

Assumption’s defense held a strong force against our offense most of the game, making shooting difficult.

The Zamborini sisters, Savina (39, 10) and Isabella (7, 12), had very aggressive defense this game and had multiple shots on goal.

Ultimately though, the Lady Crimsons ended with a loss against Assumption, one of their top rivals.

“I am very happy with the outcome of the game. We played strong until the end, but I still think we have a lot of improvement like finishing [goals] to get ready for the state tournament,” Avery Hedden (28, 10) for the Lady Crimsons said.
