JCPS members provide debate at Board Meeting

Numerous students, parents, teachers, and alumni of Jefferson County Public Schools, and specifically Manual, gave speeches regarding the status of Manual principal Jerry Mayes last Tuesday.

In October 2017, major controversies arose following a recorded conversion between Mayes and two Manual students, in which they discussed the judgement of a Manual football coach not allowing players to kneel during the Pledge of Allegiance.

Since this event, a professional investigation has begun regarding the climate and safety of Manual, along with further allegations towards Principal Mayes.

At the board meeting, Quintez Brown (12, HSU), president of Manual’s Black Student Union gave a speech about the situation. The rest of the speeches may be accessed below:
