Manual to host panel on vaping, e-cigarettes Wednesday

JCPS announced that Manual will host a community dialogue focused on the dangers of e-cigarettes and vaping on Wednesday, Nov. 6 in Manual’s auditorium at 4 p.m.

The event will feature a panel comprised of health and safety experts, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and Superintendent Marty Pollio. The official news release states that one in four students reported using an e-cigarette in a one month period, falsely believing that these products are safe, prompting the community dialogue.

The American Heart Association, American Lung Association, Kentucky Youth Advocates, YMCA of Greater Louisville, Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky and the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness will join JCPS and the mayor in hosting and sponsoring the panel.

The Center for Disease Control recently stated that the use of e-cigarettes is not safe for children, teens and young adults. As of October, 18 deaths and 1000 cases of lung illnesses have been reported as a result of vaping and e-cigarettes. Experts are concerned about the impact that vaping has on brain development through age 25.

The event is free and open to the public.
