Kentucky College of Art + Design

For those interested in contemporary arts, the Kentucky College of Art + Design (KyCAD) offers a “creative and productive life through undergraduate education.” KyCAD focuses on offering students multiple pathways to learn more about their studies such as access to interdisciplinary practices and artistic research. The college also offers students the ability to make connections with professionals in their art form and build bridges towards internships.

Army National Guard

The Army National Guard is a state-based program and incorporates part-time public service. For students, however, the Army National Guard is more than a service to the country, but a service to the intellect. The Army National Guard offers the following: “Monthly paycheck, tuition assistance, Montgomery GI Bill, which provides ‘up to 36 months of education and training benefits’, student loan repayment, specialized training in over 200 different career fields, retirement benefits, low-cost life and health insurance and a 401(k), which is a retirement saving plan that offers tax benefits.”

Another booth that was offered at duPont Manual’s college fair was evolve502. Evolve502 is a scholarship that allows JCPS students to attend and earn an associates degree for free at any Kentucky Community and Technical college. Those who are interested in applying must be a Kentucky resident and have either attended a JCPS school since ninth grade or earned a General Education Development Diploma, the other requirements are linked.

UPS

The United Parcel Service (UPS) attended duPont Manual’s college fair and offered students a chance to work while still in high school their senior year. UPS pays $21 per hour, and offers students the ability to take classes for college credit and the potential for a free degree in college. Other benefits include medical, dental and vision benefits, a flexible work schedule including no evenings and paid vacations and holidays. Students are offered two different ways to work for UPS: STW, School to work, or SAW, School at work. Eligible students are required to have the following: 2.0 cumulative grade point average or higher, good high school attendance, a recommendation by the student’s high school and the student must be 17 years of age or older. U.S. Army

In addition to the Army National Guard, the U.S. Army was also present at duPont Manual’s college fair. The U.S. Army offers students help with education costs, student loans and certifications to be able to perform well while in the service and prior. The Army offers many different programs to allow for flexibility while still being in the service. The ROTC, or Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, helps to cover the cost of tuition and school supplies while students train to become commissioned Army officers. The Green to Gold program allows for active-duty soldiers to complete two-year or four-year graduate programs by providing financial aid. Overall, the U.S. Army focuses on providing students a well-rounded view of life.
