On February 24, from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m., the duPont Manual Key Club will be presenting “Glow,” a dance marathon charity party available to all students. “Glow” is an event created and hosted entirely by student volunteers and will be held in the small gym.
Key Club volunteers have worked diligently over the past few months to bring this idea into being. A team of over thirty students have worked on five separate boards in order to provide the best food, music, decorations, activities, and advertising possible. Matt Martin (11), a member of the Music Committee, has helped to book bands and sound equipment for the event. “Individual committee members have given at least seven hours of their free time to planning, and the committee heads have given even more of their time,” he said.
In addition to planning, Martin will be performing live at the event as a bassist for the bands Price & Bryce and Think Harder. Other popular Manual-based musical guests include Good Luck Joseph, Rainy Daze Productions, and The Sunday Proposition. DJ JD, AKA Jody Dahmer (11), as well as guest DJ Cyntrix, AKA Richard Stottman of Atherton High School, will be DJing. Martin’s fellow Think Harder band mate, lead singer Jacob Linde (11), said that he is excited to play the show in order to receive even more of a Manual student following.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Kids Center, a daycare in Louisville which provides care for children with disabilities. This is a charity that Key Club President Jamie Doctrow (12) has been supporting for the past three years. “We wanted to support a local charity that could really benefit from our funds. I’ve built a personal connection and knew the perfect place right off the bat. Our board voted and decided on the Kids Center,” Doctrow said. “We are confident we made an excellent decision.”
Tickets for Glow can be purchased for $10 from any Key Club representative, or in Ms. Moss’s room (312).
Manual RedEye will live broadcast this event. More information to come.
