On Tuesday, April 22, the Manual boys lacrosse team hosted Oldham County at Manual Stadium for senior night. Manual would end up losing to Oldham County, 12-13, in a game that came down to the last two minutes.
Manual got off to a slow start in the game, trailing Oldham County 6-1 in just the first eight minutes. They eventually cut the lead down to 1 at half-time, making the score 7-6, Oldham County.
The two teams battled the rest of the game, each taking turns with the lead. It got down to the last 2 minutes of the game and the score was even at 12-12. Oldham county ended up finding the back of the net with less than a minute to play. Though the Oldham county goal was quite defeating, the Crimsons had to keep their heads in the game and make one last effort to send the game into overtime.
“It sent a feeling of defeat throughout all of us when we saw the ball hit the back of the net, but there was still time left to tie the game back up. We had to stay focused,” Kevin Jacob (12) said.
Manual’s efforts were not good enough and they fell one goal short of Oldham County, losing 12-13.
Despite the disappointing loss, Manual players still enjoyed themselves during senior night. A total of seven seniors are on the team; Greg Healy, Matthew Cissel, Parker McGuffey, Ben Speelman, Brent Wesley, Nevin Aviles, and Kevin Jacob.
“I just started playing lacrosse sophomore year. I made a lot of friends and had an overall great experience playing for Manual. I’ll never forget the times I spent with this great group of guys,” Nevin Aviles (12) said.
The Manual seniors would end their season with a losing record but are happy with how they competed. Stay tuned to @theCSPNsports for updates on their tournament progress.
