It’s finally finished: the New Cardinal Towne, that is, with all the amenities to boot. Restaurants, a swimming pool, a recreation hall, a workout room, and study rooms make up the new facility, which is located along 3rd Street and Cardinal Boulevard and is giving both University of Louisville and Manual students something to talk about.
Cardinal Towne is a four-story, 379-bed, brick facility located on a 4.5-acre block just north of Belknap Campus, previously the site of Masterson’s restaurant.
The new apartments and townhouses, available to all UofL students, have been in the making for about a year and a half. There are also on-site shops and restaurants below the housing, including Qdoba Mexican Grill, Papalino’s Pizzeria, The Comfy Cow, and Heine Brothers Coffee.
“It’s close to campus, unlike other apartment buildings like the Providence and the Bellamy,” said UofL Resident Advisor Admanda Dalton. “You really get the benefit of living on campus.”
UofL’s and Manual’s campuses are right up the street from the Towne, making it accessible for students. The Towne was built as a solution for the university’s persistent housing problems.
“I love the Towne and the fact that it’s only 5 minutes from the school,” said Bennett Huff (12).”It’s easy to get to and great for a snack after school.”
Cardinal Towne’s completion is projected for late 2012.
