Environmental Club elects new leaders

Manual’s Environmental Club elected Norah Wulkopf (10, J&C), Luke Latto (11, MST), Campbell Chandler (11, HSU) and Olivia Smith (11, YPAS) as its leading officers for the 2019-2020 school year during their last meeting.

Norah and Luke, returning officers from this past year, will lead the activism side of the club, while Campbell and Olivia, new officers for the coming year, will lead the recycling team.

Campbell and Olivia will be in charge of collecting the recycling from the classrooms throughout the school.

“My friend and I have done recycling every week this past year for NHS and thought it would be fun to lead it next year,” Campbell said, “… it’s one of my favorite parts of the week.”

Norah and Luke will be in charge of the main club functions, organizing any events and leading weekly club meetings.

“Environmental Club was a big part of my freshman year so it’s awesome that I get to lead it for the second year in a row,” Norah said.

Many members of the club are excited for their new leaders for the coming year.

“It’ll be cool to see the new leaders in action,” Marilyn Buente (10, VA) said, “I enjoyed what we did this year, but this is a new direction from the club and I’m hoping that next year will be even better,”

In addition to leading, some leaders say they are also interested in learning.

“This is my first year in environmental club,” said Campbell, “I can’t wait to learn about all the other amazing aspects of Manual’s Environmental Club next year ”

The Environmental Club leads many events throughout the year, including local food fairs, where they offer locally produced snacks and teach about the importance of eating local, and hikes, usually in local parks.

Environmental Club meets on Mondays after school 2:30 p.m to 3:30 p.m. in room 213.
