On Thursday night, the Manual JV boys’ soccer team defeated Butler High School, with a final score of 2-1.
First Half:
Butler started the game with the ball, but the Crimsons were quick to gain control. The game started with 2 free kicks, one for the Crimsons and one for Butler. After an intense first 13 minutes, a foul occurred in Butler’s goal box, leading to a penalty kick for Manual taken by forward Harrison Jeffreys (#6, 10). Butler’s goalkeeper managed to stop the ball.
However, the Crimsons got the ball back, leading to another opportunity for Jeffreys’ to score, which he did, making the score 1-0 in the Crimsons favor.
“I should’ve buried away the first shot but then I just covered it up and buried the second one,” Jefferys said about his goal.
After the goal by Jeffreys, Cole Seraphine (#35, 10) took a shot on goal but missed.
Butler got the ball back after Seraphine’s goal and almost scored, but was stopped by defender Jackson Bean (#8, 10). The Crimsons got the ball back but got fouled twice and Abdelrahm Bandaras Abdel (#44, 10) and Solomon Tandy (#22, 9) took free kicks for the Crimsons but both missed.
The half ended with a score of 1-0 after multiple shots on goal from both teams, all being stopped by goalkeepers.
Second Half:
The Crimsons started the second half with the ball and the half was slow until Butler scored around the 25 minute mark, making the score 1-1.
The Crimsons almost scored two more times but both goals were stopped by the Butler goalkeeper. With seven minutes left in the game, Luca Berrisford (#66, 9) scored for the Crimsons, giving them a 2-1 lead. The Crimson defense held Butler for the last minutes, making the final score 2-1.
“I thought they played very well, its been a work in progress all season so far and they are improving each game,” Coach Jay Stottman said.
