The duPont Manual girl’s softball team mercy-ruled Presentation 20-0 in their game Wednesday evening.
Presentation was up to bat first and the Manual defense started out strong with three outs.
The Crimsons were then up to bat with Bella Newell (#44, 9), who had a big hit, allowing Payton Russell (#4, 9) to run home. Russell gave the Crimsons their starting lead of 1-0.
After the first run home, the Crimsons were on a roll with runs home by Newell, Akaijah Sparrow (#2, 12), Brooklyn Bing (#21, 9), Savanah Renn (#23, 9), Sophia Bynum (#25, 9), Riley Borders (#22, 11 and Lily Kilgore (#30, 11). This brought the Crimson’s lead to 8-0 over the Toppers.
Towards the end of the first inning, Hailey Kincaid (#14, 11) had a big hit into the outfield where Dani Calloway (#24, 10) attempted to get them out but ultimately dropped the ball. This led to Kenleigh Cates (#7, 10) safely making it to home base, bringing the score to 9-0.
The Topper’s Lena Barriga (#2, 11) got two outs on the Crimsons, but before the inning ended, Manual’s Sparrow had a run home.
The Lady Crimsons are up 10-0 on the Toppers going into the second inning.
Alyssa Deitchman (#4, 11) was up to bat first for the Toppers starting out the second inning, but the Crimson’s defense, led by Kincaid, was once again strong and got Deitchman out.
Manual’s Sparrow got Ruby Watson (#12, 9) and Gracie Steele (#14, 9) out, so the Crimson’s were then up to bat.
Olivia Kunkle (#24, 11) had a big hit, which led to runs home by Kilgore and Borders, who scored Manual’s first points of the new inning.
Newell then got the Crimsons pumped up with a home run where multiple players ran to home as well.
“I felt great getting that big hit and getting a home run with bases loaded,” Newell said, about her home run.
Then Kincaid hit another home run for the Lady Crimsons, making the score 17-0.
Multiple others scored and then Bynum had a quick slide to home base which brought the score to 20-0.
Presentation’s defense then got both Kilgore and Cates out, bringing the second inning to an end where Manual led 20-0.
The third inning was ended quickly, courtesy of the Manual defense, with a mercy rule.
“The team was extremely hype and excited for our big win tonight. And this win also made us even more ready for the fights against Ballard,” Kincaid said.
