The first year of newly selected sanctioned sports for the KHSAA is upon us, including both boys and girls lacrosse, which is sanctioned this academic year 2024-25, along with others. 

This decision was made at the KHSAA Board of Control meeting on May 10, 2023. KHSAA released detailed information after its November 14th Board of Control meeting.

Alignment

The alignment will be comprised of eight regions.

Region 1 – Bowling Green High School, Greenwood High School, Owensboro High School, South Warren High School

Region 2 – Central Hardin High School, DeSales High School, Dupont Manual High School, Mercy Academy, North Hardin High School, Presentation Academy

Region 3 – Assumption High School, Atherton High School, Louisville Collegiate School, Male High School, Sacred Heart Academy, Saint Xavier High School

Region 4 -Ballard High School, Christian Academy-Louisville High School, Eastern High School, Fern Creek High School, Kentucky Country Day High School, Trinity (Louisville) High School

Region 5 -Cooper High School, Covington Catholic High School, Dixie Heights High School, Notre Dame Academy, Ryle High School, St. Henry District High School, Walton-Verona High School

Region 6 -Anderson County High School, Collins High School, North Oldham High School, Oldham County High School, Shelby County High School, South Oldham High School

Region 7 -Bryan Station High School, Frederick Douglass High School, Great Crossing High School, Henry Clay High School, Sayre High School, Scott County High School

Region 8 -Lafayette High School, Lexington Catholic High School, Lexington Christian Academy, Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, Tates Creek High School, Woodford County High School

Regional Tournament 

• Eight (8) Regional Tournaments completed by May 15
• The Region Winner will advance to the State Tournament (8 teams).
• • Regions should meet at the beginning of the season to determine the site selection plan and seeding mechanisms.
  • If seeding, there are no random selection opportunities, even in ties and in the case of unbreakable ties, broken by RPI.
  • If not determined by the first game, then seeding by RPI.

State First-Rounds 

• Splitting the state for the first round into regions 1-4 and 5-8 will prevent long travel to host sites.
• Rotate pairings in 1-4, 5-8 groupings to lessen travel but allow competition outside of the region in the postseason
• Groupings for 2025 will have Region 1 host Region 2, Region 3 host Region 4, Region 5 host Region 6 and Region 7 host Region 8
• These pairings will rotate each year with a planned six-year cycle

State Semi-Finals and Final

• A blind draw will be held to determine matchups for the semifinal round.

First Contest (Game): March 3, 2025

Seed Game Deadline: May 7, 2025

Postseason Dates: May 12, 2025 – May 21,2025 

State First-Round: May 17, 2025

State Semi-finals: May 19, 2025 (Shelby Co. High School and Collins High School)

State Championship: May 21, 204 (Collins High School)
