On Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26, Manual’s boys’ and girls’ varsity cross-country teams competed in their respective Class 3A Region 3 meets at Seneca Park. This event determined what teams and individual runners will advance to the state meet.
Seneca Park also hosted the Class 3A Region 4 meet, Class 2A Region 3 meet and Class A Region 3 meet for both boys’ and girls’ teams. With races starting around noon, followed by awards, Manual did not run until late in the afternoon.
Manual’s first race was the boys’ 5000 meter run at 3:30 p.m. The first runner to cross the finish line for the Crimsons was Quinn Gulden (12, HSU), with a time of 15:59.09. Gulden came in second overall, following Male runner Caden Cull, who finished the race with a time of 15:13.54. Tedi Henderson (12, HSU) followed Gulden, finishing in third place overall, with a time of 16:20.23. Following Henderson was Sam Chandler (12, HSU), who finished in fourth place with a time of 16:23.40.
Brady Jenkins (12, HSU) finished in twelfth place with a time of 16:47.23. In fourteenth place, with a time of 16:54.15 was John Willen (10, MST). Shortly after, Oliver Zausch (10, HSU) crossed the finish line in sixteenth place with a time of 16:59.03. Jacob Bohn rounded out the team, finishing nineteenth with a time of 17:10.87.
The girls’ 5000 meter race followed at 4:15 p.m. Bailee Montgomery (11, HSU) led the race from start to finish, crossing the finish line with a time of 17:54.49. Maggie May (12, VA) followed in second place overall, with a time of 18:26.13. Emerson Wyatt (12, MST) finished in fifth place overall, with a time of 18:56.78. Madison Price (10, HSU) crossed the finish line after Wyatt with a time of 19:13.01, coming in sixth place overall. Twin sisters Abigail Multerer (9, HSU) and Allison Multerer (9, HSU) finished in seventh and eighth place with times of 20:13.44 and 20:34.91, respectively.
In summary, on the boys’ side, all six of Manual’s runners finished within the top 20, three within the top five, allowing Manual to capture the KHSAA Boys Class 3A Region 3 Championship. On the girls’ side, all six of Manual’s runners finished within the top 10, allowing the Lady Crimsons to capture the KHSAA Girls Class 3A Region 3 Championship.
As a result, both teams have booked their ticket to the state meet. They will race in the Class 3A meets on Nov. 2 at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The girls will race at 10 a.m., followed by the boys at 10:45 a.m.
