Ms. Palmer is the founding advisor of Manual RedEye. She took an extended break from advising to help found the student newsmagazine, On the Record, which she then advised for nine years. This year, she makes her triumphant return to the RedEye newsroom. As the J&C department chair who’s been with the magnet since 2007, Ms. Palmer has overseen a number of improvements that have led J&C to earn a national reputation for student journalism excellence. Perhaps most famously, she provided guidance to the investigative team that produced a series that led to reforms in Kentucky State Police training procedures. When she’s away from the newsroom, she might be roller skating, speaking in baby talk to her dog, or playing Fortnite with her family, friends or students, who are all much faster than her.
