Student Senate discusses student workload, wireless network

In its first meeting since winter break, the Student Senate discussed issues such as student complaints and free school-wide wireless network.

Due to an inordinate amount of complaints about teachers and workload made by students, the Senators discussed whether or not to take the issue to the counselors.

“It turned into an hourlong debate,” Jack Grundy (12) said.  “Some people said that there was a major problem, and others felt that the students just needed to suck it up and deal with what they considered a typical Manual workload.”

In the end, the Senate determined that the issue was impractical to deal with and dismissed the idea.

Senate members also saw the end of a campaign to obtain free school-wide Wi-Fi, which was shut down by computer teacher Mr. David Dallmann due to the possibility of the network obtaining viruses.

“I could see where that would be true, but I don’t think it would be very likely it would get a virus,” Robin Zhao (11), who headed the project, said.

“Generally, I think the network is a good idea,” Ms. Erica Darnell (English) said.  “My only concern would be misuse of the network for things like chat rooms or games.”

The Senate meets the first Tuesday and second Thursday of each month in room 224. All Manual students are allowed to attend Senate meetings to express their own ideas.
