On Tuesday night, Manual’s varsity boys’ lacrosse team took down the Central Hardin Bruins on senior night, 16-2.
The senior night ceremony began at 6:20 p.m. and one by one, the seniors walked through the tunnel created by their underclassmen teammates with their family and friends. They took turns taking pictures with their loved ones, coaches, Principal Dr. Micheal Newman and Athletic Director David Zuberer.
The game also marked the last ever athletic event held on the grass field at Manual Stadium. Starting April 1, 2025, the stadium will undergo a renovation. This includes a turf field, video scoreboard and upgrades to the restrooms.
First Half:
The game began with the Bruins winning the first face-off and a scoring attempt, but they missed. Less than a minute later, Manual scored the first goal of the game.
The Bruins later took possession of the ball and attempted to score again, but the shot was blocked by goalie Elijah Robinson (#30, 12).
Jason Millard (#4, 12) then attempted to shoot, but he was blocked by the Bruins’ goalie. But with the ball near the Bruins’ goal, Grayson Delgado (#17, 12) took the opportunity to score and made the shot. The score was then 2-0 for the Crimsons.
There were a lot of back and forth possessions ensuing, with both teams taking shots on goal. With five minutes left in the first quarter, there were multiple shots made by the Crimsons. The score was now 5-0. The Bruins ended up scoring their first goal of the game after they stole the ball from Nathaniel Bishop (#34, 12), and passed Manual’s defensive barrier.
The first quarter would end with an assist from Gunner Cox (#14, 11) who helped Charlie Rose (#22, 11) score. The first quarter ended with the scoreboard in favor of the Crimsons, 6-1.
The face-off to mark the second quarter was won by Manual. Soon after, Daniel Abrams (#21, 12) would be called out for a minute for slashing.
The Crimsons’ defense would fight hard to get the Bruins away from their goal. The fight was ultimately successful with Roehn Dye (#3, 10) taking the ball back down the field and scoring.
After a series of passes, Delgado would score again. The score was now 8-1 for the Crimsons.
With six minutes left in the first half, the game was again followed by both teams moving back and forth across the field. However, two shots on Central Hardin’s goal were successfully made by Manual. The second quarter ended with a score of 10-1 for the Crimsons, but not before Central Hardins’ coaches used two timeouts in the last minute of the half.
“We had all the seniors playing for the entire first quarter, getting a chance to play for the last time with all their teammates and their friends and we had success while doing it,” head coach Brian Moore said.
Second Half:
The Crimsons began the third quarter by winning the face-off which would lead to a successful goal by Rose The score was now 11-1.
With the ball being constantly passed around the field, the Bruins called their third timeout to give their players a break. Shortly after, they scored their final goal of the game with two minutes left in the third quarter.
With 48 seconds left, Robinson gained possession of the ball and scored, as did Yisak Korssa (#25, 10). The final score of the third quarter was 13-2 for the Crimsons.
The fourth quarter began with Manual winning the face-off and a Bruin player given a yellow card for slashing. Regardless of this aggression, Perkins scored a goal.
The fourth quarter was filled with a number of passes by the Crimsons in attempt to allow Anthony Northington (#41, 12) to score. Although Northington didn’t score a goal, the team work shown by the Crimsons allowed Perkins to score once more. The score was now 15-2.
The final goal of the game was made by Korssa with five minutes left in the game. Both teams continued to try and score points but were unable to.
“I hope they see the brothership that we had on this team and continue that bond that everyone had,” Perkins said when asked about what he hopes the underclassmen take away from him and the senior class.
The final score of the game was 16-2 in favor of the Crimsons. Their next game will be against North Hardin High School on Thursday March 27 at 7 p.m. at North Hardin.
