On Friday afternoon, Manual High School hosted its first pep rally of the 2025-26 school year ahead of the football homecoming game.
The event began with the traditional senior walkout, followed by members of the YPAS choir performing the national anthem. Students then competed in a pool noodle race, where participants laid down and passed the noodle over their heads to teammates. The juniors won the race, and the seniors finished last.
The Homecoming Court was introduced before the Manual Majorette Team. The Dreamers performed in their new uniforms. The uniforms were a shift from the more casual outfits worn in previous years. The fitted bodysuits were adorned with sparkling gems, giving the team a polished, professional look while adding an extra element. Manual Athletic Director David Zuberer recognized the girls’ tennis team for winning the program’s first state championship. He also honored golfer Ella Sizemore (11, YPAS) for her accomplishments before addressing the upcoming football game, highlighting the excitement of playing in Manual’s new stadium. The stadium has become a historic landmark in the middle of the Schnitzelburg neighborhood. The stadium now features a new turf field and video scoreboard, along with renovated bathrooms, bleachers, concession stands and press box. Construction began in March and, while minor tweaks are still being made, the first home game was held at the stadium.
Other activities included a game of musical chairs. Seniors took the win after the game came down to Charlie Rose (12, HSU) and Erica Geer (12, YPAS). The Dazzler team performed after the musical chairs game.
Students also participated in the annual Red/White chant. The chant symbolizes school pride and embodies the competitive spirit that Manual encourages. One side of the gym shouts “Red!” while the other answers back with “White!” in a call-and-response that grows louder. Principal Michael Newman closed the rally by announcing the fall pep rally winners of the spirit stick, the seniors, who were recognized for attending the most events, showing the most school spirit and cheering the loudest.
The homecoming football game kicked off at 7:30 p.m. at the new Manual Football Stadium. The homecoming king and queen were Deepak Ramesh (12, MST) and Ella Xing (12, MST). The homecoming prince and princess were Joel Huffstickler (11, HSU) and Samiyah Taylor (11, J&C).
