Manual’s Gay/Straight/Transgender Alliance (GSTA) club met in Ms. Causey’s room after school on Monday Sept 10.
For the benefit of potential new members, current members explained what GSTA is and what their plans are for the 2012-13 school year.
“We want to get more into the school community and inform the school about things like asexuality and transsexuality,” said GSTA Co-President, Zoe Schaver(12). “We even have a few events lined up.”
Such events include bringing in University of Louisville LGBT speakers, participating in AIDS walks, and holding Politically Incorrect Days where students voice their opinions on discrimination and other sensitive topics.
Other GSTA officers include Co-President Mara Hayes (11), Vice President Aaron Mueller (11), and Secretary Margo Birdwhistell (11).
Approximately 30 potential new members showed up to the meeting, so many that it limited space in the classroom, according to Schaver.
Members will meet weekly for regular meetings every Monday in room 133 from 2:30-3:30.
