Next Monday, Manual’s baseball team will begin district playoffs against Shawnee at Derby City Field. The winner of that game will then play the winner of the Central-Portland Christian game in the district championship. Both teams that make the final will advance to the regional tournament which is played at Jim Patterson stadium- the home of the Louisville Cardinal baseball team.
The baseball team expects to walk through the district tournament and then make a run in the regional tournament. “We beat all three teams in our district fairly easy in the regular season, so we should win the district tournament no problem at all,” said Alec Dunn (12). Assuming they do take care of business in districts, the team could then face some very tough competition in regional play.
Eight teams (two teams from four different districts) will meet at Jim Patterson stadium for the seventh region tournament that Manual hopes to make a run in. The winner of the regional tournament advances to the state tournament in Lexington. “Our goal is to win a region championship and then ultimately a state championship ,” said Ben Hachten (12). Hachten said the team to beat in the regional tournament will be St. Xavier who is currently ranked #2 in the state. The Manual baseball team played St.Xavier back on April 27th, and fell 6-1.
Despite losing to St. X earlier this season, the team stil has belief they can take down the Tigers. “We need to play together and tough. If we fight as a cohesive unit for all 7 innings, I’m confident we bac beat them,” said Hachten (12).
