Humana Festival Lineup Announced

The line-up of plays for the 35th Anniversary Humana Festival of New American Plays at Actor’s Theatre of Louisville has recently been announced. A Devil at Noon, Elemeno Pea, Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them, The End, The Edge of our Bodies, BOB, and Maple and Vine will all debut at the festival along with a variety of ten minute plays selected from the National Ten Minute Play Contest. The Humana Festival Kick-Off Party on March 3rd marks the beginning of the festival with plays running until April 3rd at Actor’s Theatre.

Sponsored by Humana, the festival is famous for its legacy of renowned works. Three of the past plays have won Pulitzer Prizes: D. L. Coburn’s The Gin Game, Beth Henley’s Crimes of the Heart and Donald Margulies’ Dinner With Friends. Eight plays have won the Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award and eight of the plays have been recreated on both television and movie screens.

Auditions are still in process for a select few of the Humana New American Plays. Once scheduled, the exact times and dates for castings will be available on Actor’s Theatre website. Casting for regular season plays will occur on April 20 & 21 2011 from 3:30 – 6 p.m. by appointment only. Although the National Ten Minute Play Contest has been concluded for 2010, submissions for the 2011 contest are due by post (no longer than 10 pages) to Actor’s Theatre by November 1st, 2011.
