CMA publications and productions won multiple awards on Friday, March 18, including the international Gold Crown award for the yearbook.
The CMA students attended the WKU Mark of Excellence Awards ceremony in Bowling Green on March 18 and returned later with awards in newspaper, multimedia, yearbook and broadcast categories. This was the first year the newspaper won in the WKU awards in recent years. Manifesto, the theme title of the 2009-2010 yearbook, won first place in every category, except a third place showing in Best Advertising.

On the bus ride from WKU back to Manual, yearbook staff member Micah McClain (11) received a text message from Ethan Hawes, a former yearbook editor-in-chief, saying that Manifesto had also won a Gold Crown, an award presented by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association at Columbia University in New York City, given to the highest caliber of yearbooks. Only 15 yearbooks win out of over 1400 eligible submissions, many from the most prestigious public and private schools in the nation. This is the second year in a row that The Crimson yearbook has won the Gold Crown.
The yearbook staff will find out in April if last year’s book won a Pacemaker, the equally esteemed award for a yearbook from the other major scholastic press organization, the National Scholastic Press Association.
Many CMA students were thrilled by these recent successes. “I love anything and everything about CMA,” said Noelle Pouzar (10). “Today was perfect. This is my home.”
