This Week In Manual Athletics: March 13

Baseball

The varsity baseball team opens the 2017 season this week at Seneca at 5:00 on Tuesday. Last year the Crimsons beat rival Male in the regional semifinals before losing to eventual state champion St. Xavier in the regional finals. The team will also play Jeffersontown at Derby City Field at 7:30 (JV will play at 5:00) on Wednesday and will play at Wagner at 5:00 on Thursday. On Saturday the varsity team travels to Scottsville, Kentucky to take on Allen County Scottsville at noon and Bowling Green High School at 2:00 (EST).

Softball

The varsity softball team also starts the regular season this week as they host Bullitt Central on Monday at 5:00 (JV at 6:30). They have a quick turnaround as the team travels to Southern on Tuesday to take on the Trojans at 5:00 (JV at 6:30). The team will then travel to Hoover, Alabama to play in the annual Hoover Round Robin on Friday and Saturday.

Track and Field

The Track and Field teams come in ranked among the top in the state this season. Led by the Gatorade Kentucky Boys’ Runner of the Year Yared Nuguse, the Boys’ team hopes to make big strides in advancing to the state championships. Emma Kuntz, who ran a US number two time 2:10.6 minute 800m at the University of Kentucky Invitational last month, leads the girls team into what promises to be a fruitful season. On Saturday the teams travel to Christian Academy of Louisville to compete in the Harry Greschel Invitational.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Last week the boys’ lacrosse team opened the season with a 7-1 win over Oldham County High School. This week the squad will have two home games, one versus Elizabethtown on Wednesday (Time TBA) and another versus Christian Academy of Louisville at 6:00 (JV at 7:30). On Saturday the team will travel to Lexington to face off with Tates Creek High School at 7:00.

Girls’ Lacrosse

This week the girls’ lacrosse team takes on the Assumption Rockets at Assumption on Tuesday at 7:30 (JV White at 5:00, JV Red at 6:15). Last year the Crimsons beat the Rockets in a close one 12-11. The very next day the team travels to Sacred Heart to play the Valkyries (Time TBA). On Friday they travel to South Oldham High School at 7:30 (JV Red at 6:00). To finish out the week the team will play Bishop Fenwick High School at Mercy Academy at 1:00 on Saturday (JV Red plays Mercy at 11:30 AM, JV White plays Mercy at 2:30 PM).

Tennis

The tennis teams also open the 2017 season this week on Tuesday with matches at Kentucky Country Day at 4:00 (Boys) and against Assumption at Top Gun Tennis Academy at 4:00 (Girls). Then on Wednesday the girls’ team will take on St. Francis at Chickasaw Park at 4:00. The boys’ team will play its second match of the week at Christian Academy of Louisville on Thursday at 4:00. Then on Friday and Saturday the girl’s team will compete in the Notre Dame Invitational, while the boys’ team battles in the St. Xavier duels.
