The varsity boys’ soccer team took a loss to Male last night with a final score of 5-3 after a long, back-and-forth game.
Both teams held a strong field, defense and offense, but the Crimsons couldn’t get the ball back into the net.
Carson Adwell (#22, 12) and Franck Temgoma (#11, 10) from Manual stood out on the defensive line, both having many aggressive block tackles and stops.
Goals for Manual came from Trevor Abma (#7, 11), Campbell Chandler (#31, 10) and Meyer Mercker (#13, 12) including multiple offensive crosses from Reid Olash (#21, 12).
“I think we did really well and put it all out there, we just got a little unlucky and couldn’t put it in the back of the net. We just need to work harder in practice and bring it out to the field,” Chandler said.
Manual held strong defense most of the game, but couldn’t keep possession from Male’s offense.
Male’s Joseph Zamora (#7,12) played a smart and creative game, scoring four of their goals with outstanding offensive skills.
“We came out and did what we needed to do to win the game,” Zamora said.
Male’s team and coaches felt confident after the game.
“Beating your rival is always a good feeling and I didn’t expect it from the boys. Consistency was our hardest challenge and we slacked off a bit but I am proud of the way we played,” Male Coach Halee Heltsley said.
Manual’s next game is a home game against Central on Sept. 11, 2017 at 5:30.
