Crimsons cruise past competition at state swim meet

Boys’

The Manual boys’ swim team placed 8th in the KHSAA State swim meet with a total of 99 points Saturday morning.

50 freestyle – Will Tarvestad (11) took first place for North Oldham with a time of 19.84, beating the previous state record of 20.03.

“Well it’s been my goal all season to go under 20 in the 50. Finally accomplishing that felt amazing and I’m glad that I had Hunter there to push me. This meet was definitely one to remember,” Tarvestad said.

100 freestyle – Hunter Tapp (11) snagged first place for Trinity with a time of 43.99, setting a new state record. Alan Ocheretner (12) brought home 13th place for the Crimsons with a time of 48.65.

100 backstroke – Matt Menke (11) took first place for Lexington Catholic with a time of 48.9 and Carson Work (12) placed sixth for Manual with a time of 52.51.

100 breaststroke – Alex Brehm (9) snagged first place for Louisville Collegiate with a time of 56.38.

100 fly – Zach Hils (11) took first place for Lexington Catholic with a time of 48.93. Carson Work (12) brought home fifth place for Manual with a time of 50.66, a new personal best for him.

200 freestyle – Aldan Johnson (12) snagged first place for St. Xavier with a time of 1:35.76, setting a new state record.

“I am excited that I set a new record, but I don’t think it’ll last very long. I believe there is some young talent out there that will give that record a run for it’s money,” Johnson said.

Manual’s Greyson Williams (11) finished 11th with a time of 1:43.32.

200 IM – Zach Hills (11) took home another first place for Lexington Catholic with a time of 1:46.83.

500 freestyle – Aldan Johnson (12) placed first for St. Xavier with a time of 4:25.31 and Greyson Williams (11) placed 12th for Manual with a time of 4:42.46.

“I feel like everyone performed really well tonight and put in their best effort, which is all that really matters in the end,” Williams said.

200 freestyle relay – St. Xavier placed first with a time of 1:25.11. Carson Work (12), Alan Ocheretner (12), Brandon Nally (11) and Daniel Pearson (10) brought home 7th for the Crimsons with a time of 1:29.99.

200 medley relay – St. Xavier snagged another first place with a time of 1:30.17. Thomas Simmons (11), Greyson Williams (11), Brandon Nally (11) and Hayden Brown (10) placed 13th with a time of 1:43.34.

400 freestyle relay – St. Xavier finished in first place with a time of 3:00.31. Carson Work (12), Alan Ocheretner (12), Greyson Williams (11) and Daniel Pearson (10) placed seventh with a time of 3:14.67.

Manual placed 8th in the boys’ division with a total of 99 points.

Girls’

The Manual girls’ swim team placed 5th at the KHSAA state swim meet with 150 points Saturday night.

50 freestyle – Gabriela Albiero (10) of Christian Academy at Louisville finished first with a time of 22.64. Annie Michael (10) placed 13th for Manual with a time of 24.84.

100 freestyle – Sophie Skinner (12) placed first for Notre Dame Academy with a time of 50.06.

100 backstroke – Annabel Crush (9) took first place for Sacred Heart with a time of 52.90.

100 fly – Gabriela Albiero (10) snagged another first place for Christian Academy at Louisville with a time of 53.04. Zorry Mason (12) placed seventh for Manual with a time of 55.56.

100 breaststroke – Kaylee Wheeler (12) took first place for Louisville Collegiate with a time of 1:00.64.

“Ending my last state meet for high school was kind of a bittersweet moment. I was pretty pleased with my performances and how I finished it all off,” Wheeler said.

Anna Hogan (11) placed fifth for Manual with a time of 1:05.13 and Jane Hu (10) placed seventh for Manual as well with a time of 1:05.92.

200 freestyle – Rachel Klinker (11) placed first for Tates Creek with a time of 1:46.05. Kristan Adams (12) brought home 11th place for the Crimsons with a time of 1:55.81.

200 IM – Claire Donan (10) snagged another first place for Sacred Heart with a time of 1:59.63. Jane Hu (10) took 14th place for Manual with a time of 1:08.90.

500 freestyle – Rachel Klinker (11) took another first place for Tates Creek with a time of 4:49.77. Kristin Adams (12) placed 10th for Manual with a time of 5:09.14.

200 freestyle relay – Sacred Heart took first place with a time of 1:34.84. Zorry Mason (12), Anna Hogan (11), Jane Hu (10) and Annie Michael (10) got second place for the Crimsons with a time of 1:36.64.

200 medley relay – Sacred Heart took home another first place with a time of 1:43.08.

400 freestyle relay – Sacred Heart dominated the relays, taking another first place with a time of 3:23.44. Zorry Mason (12), Anna Hogan (11), Jane Hu (10) and Annie Michael (10) placed fifth for the Crimsons with a time of 3:32.21.

The All-State swim team chose senior, Zorry Mason, for first team All-State and junior, Anna Hogan, for second team All-State.

The girls’ team ended with a cumulative 150 points, placing them in fifth at the state meet.
