On Oct. 20, the Kentucky Museum of Arts and Crafts (KMAC), had a poetry slam for teenagers to help them express their inner creativity by sharing with other kids their age.

“We had about 10 people participate in this event and I would definitely call it a recurring success,” Curtis Conlin, Kentucky Museum of Arts and Crafts event coordinator said.

Around 10 teenagers participated in the event and even more came listen to the poems, making the monthly event have yet another successful outcome.

The teenage poetry slam is a non-competitive event that is for fun and self expression and repeats every third Saturday of the month unless their website says otherwise.

The kids who choose to partake, write their own poems at home and sign up online.

Everyone from the community is welcome to the event regardless of their age.

Most of the KMAC poetry slams start at 3:30 p.m. and go to 5:30 p.m.

KMAC hosts a multitude of other events such as their Family Fun Day, competitive Poetry Slams for individuals 18 and older and they can also compete in groups, and and their First Friday Hop, all of which repeat at some time every month.

Most events at KMAC are free but some special events, such as the teen poetry slam, there is a $5 fee or more at the door to get in and you do not have to have a poem to perform if you decide to come.

It is uncertain when the next teen poetry slam will occur because due to not having enough participants the museum has decided to put the even on hold.
