John Montgomery Belk Scholarship (Davidson College)
–Due Date: Nominations are announced on Oct. 28.
–Eligibility: Seniors interested in the scholarship should speak with their counselors about nomination and eligibility.
-This scholarship only takes nominations from certain high schools across the country, and Manual is one of those schools. Administrators may present potential nominees. Each school may only select one student to have a chance of winning the Belk Scholarship. The Belk Scholars are announced on April 5.
–According to Davidson College’s website, “The Belk Scholarship provides tuition, fees, room and board – $47,029 in 2010-11 along with two summer stipends of $3,000 a piece.”
Horatio Alger Scholarship Program
-Due Date: nominations announced on Oct. 30.
-Eligibility: According to the program’s website, “to be eligible the student must have:
- At least a 2.0 GPA
- Currently be enrolled full time as a high school senior
- Be in critical financial need ($50,000 gross family income)
- Be involved in co-cirricular and community activites
- Have a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution located in the United States”
-The National Scholarship Program awards 104 $20,000 scholarships to students across the country, while the Kentucky Scholarship Program awards eight $5,000 scholarships.
College Answer’s $1,000 Scholarship Giveaway
–Due Date: Monthly
–Eligibility: According to College Answer’s website, “The College Answer $1,000 Sweepstakes is open to students, parents, guidance counselors, and financial aid officers.”
-Students must register and fill out an online form.
