    CMA students win awards at NSPA/JEA journalism convention

    Many CMA students won several awards by participating in the many contests at the fall National Scholastic Press Association/Journalism Education Association High School Journalism Convention that happened between Nov 18 to 20.

    The following students received recognition from these contests:
    Julian Wright (11) Superior rating for Broadcast commentary
    Kelsey McKim (12) Superior rating for Yearbook club/copy captions
    Yazmin Martinez (11) Superior rating for Computer design in Photoshop art
    Virginia Johnson (12) Excellent rating for Newsmagazine layout
    Zoe Schaver (11) Excellent rating for Yearbook student life copy/captions
    Eli Fosl (12) Excellent rating for Videography
    Meagan Anderson (12) Excellent rating for Computer design: advertising
    Seth Fischer (12) Excellent rating for Photography portfolio
    Sadie Birchfield (11) Honorable mention for Literary magazine layout
    Miranda Thompson (12) Honorable mention for Yearbook student life photography
    Dave Carroll (12) Honorable mention for Broadcast news story

    CMA was also able to find out the results of their finalist nominations for national awards from NSPA.  Virginia Johnson won fifth place in Newsmagazine Cover Design of the Year, Sally George (class of 2011) won first place in the Sports Reaction Photo of the Year, and Manual Redeye won first place in first place in Multimedia Package of the Year for its breaking news reporting on former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak’s resignation.

    “I seriously am proud. I am the first in my family to win a national award, and it feels nice seeing my parents being really proud and telling others that I won this award,” Martinez said. 

    Julia Nguyen is currently a CMA sophomore.
