Can you decorate for the holidays too early?

With the holiday season upon us, many are starting to decorate their homes. However, some people have had their homes decorated for a while now, and others will wait until later in the year to begin. This begs the question, “Is there a time that’s too early to celebrate Christmas?”

For some, like Neveah Porter (10, J&C)  their love of Christmas makes them want to get into the holiday spirit as early as possible.

“Of course I don’t think it’s right to have Christmas in March, however I will say I love Christmas all year round. With that being said, Christmas can never come sooner! Why not celebrate earlier?” Porter said.

For others, it’s the opposite.

“May is definitely too early but if I could I would start putting up decorations in September. I think Christmas in the summer is weird which is why anytime before like August is too early” Tera Harris (12, YPAS) said.

Still, others have a specific timeframe for when they start getting to the holiday spirit.

“I love Christmas time, but I have a pretty firm ‘rule’ about waiting until after Thanksgiving to set up decorations and such,” Sarah Dewberry, mother of Catherine Dewberry (10, YPAS) said. “My kids joke about my ‘no Christmas music in the car until after Thanksgiving’ rule. I just feel like we need to give Thanksgiving the honor of its own day before we crowd it with Christmas.”

There are many opinions on when to start decorating for Christmas, with some people wanting to give Thanksgiving it’s time to shine and others wanting to blow past it altogether. Even though some people don’t want to wait that long, the main consensus among the Manual community on when to start decorating for Christmas is to wait until at least September.
