Local events for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

While the majority of America’s holidays are generally recognized as a day of rest, Martin Luther King Jr.’s day is a day encouraged for involvement with the community to contribute to his envisions. With Dr. King’s day approaching, here are some services you can do to contribute to the local Louisville community that fall within COVID-19 guidelines.
Dare to Care Food Bank and Compassion Games Kentucky
Dare to Care Food Bank and Compassion Games Kentucky are running a food drive beginning on January 15th and occurring until the 18th. Food bins will be prepared at all Louisville Kroger’s and accepting any non-perishable food items. The donations will go to both associations and contribute to feeding the hungry. Available drop off times is between 7 a.m. – 11:45 p.m.
Living Jazz
Living Jazz will be putting on virtual music performances, and having spoken words from activists to honor Dr. King on January 17th at four p.m. They are dedicated to making this concert accessible to all by offering a “Pay What You Can” admission, therefore, donation tickets of your money choice will need to be purchased previous to attending the event. All donations will be going towards Oakland public elementary schools to provide for their music program.

King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church

King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church will be holding prayer and service in honor of Dr. King, beginning at S 28th St & W Broadway at 9:30 a.m, and transitioning to Anderson streets baptist church for the service.
Cathedral of the Assumption

Cathedral of the Assumption will be holding their 36th Annual Archdiocesan Community-wide Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. Archbishop Joseph Kurtz will be giving a prayer in regard to the “It’s Time to Repair” theme along with the Archdiocesan Gospel Choir. The service will also be in honor of Dr. King. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, in-person attendance will be limited.
