The Lowe’s Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a high school senior with a GPA of at least 3.25, who demonstrates active participation in their community through volunteer work and service opportunities.
Prize: 140 scholarships will be awarded to students planning to “enroll full-time in an undergraduate course of study in the U.S. for the 2012/2013 school year.”

The Christophers Poster Contest Scholarship
Eligibility: High school students grades 9-12. Applicants must create an original poster representing their interpretation of the theme, “One person can make a difference.”
Prizes: “First Prize – $1000
Second Prize – $500
Third Prize – $250
Up to five Honorable Mentions of $100 each.”

SPJ Scholarship Essay Contest
Eligibility: All high school students (grades 9-12) who submit original work with a contest entry form signed by a sponsoring teacher. Students must compose an essay (either typed or hand-written) of 300-500 words answering the question, “Why is it important that we have news media independent of the government?”
Prizes: First place receives a $1,000 dollar scholarship followed by a $500 dollar prize for second place, $300 for third.
