Crimsons take a commanding win against Atherton

Last night, the varsity boys basketball team (16-5) defeated Atherton (8-10) 86-56.

First half:

Despite the first five minutes of the game being back and forth, Manual gained momentum after Tavon Jones (#1, 12) broke free for a two-handed dunk in transition from a steal. The energy followed by Jones’ dunk allowed Manual to establish a 22-13 lead to end the first quarter.

To start the second quarter, Manual went on a 9-2 run to stretch the Crimson lead to 31-15. Sophomores Christian Doeer (#13) and Damone King (#21) led this run for Manual. The Crimsons’ commanding lead grew as the first half ended with a 49-22 Manual.

The halftime performance was by the Manual Dreamers Step Team.

Second Half:

With a few possessions in the third quarter, Koji Anderson (#2, 12) threw an alley-oop pass to a Tobias Jones (#11, 12), cutting across the baseline, finishing with a two-hand dunk.

Atherton tried to fight back with a couple of three-pointers from Gavin Tudor (#20, 12) but was unsuccessful as the third quarter ended with Atherton trailing 67-39.

To start the fourth quarter, Kene Okeke (#33, 11) held down the paint for Manual, with two blocks within five minutes of play. Additionally, Ryan Shene (#30, 10) went on a scoring tear, hitting a three, a contested layup and converting a couple of free throws.

The stat leaders for the game for the Crimsons were Koji Anderson with 18 points, two assists, two steals, and Christian Doeer with 11 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

The Crimson’s next game will be at home on Friday at 7:30 against Male for a whiteout theme.
