On Thursday night, the Manual’s JV boys’ basketball team was defeated in their rival game against Louisville Male High School, 65-41.
First Half:
Manual got the tipoff, passing it to Manual’s Dario Harper (#1, 9), who scored a three-point shot.
Male then tried to take possession of the ball, but it was stolen by Manual’s Will Thompson (#30, 10) and passed off to Jeremiah Stephens (#21, 10) who scored.
After, Male scored several points, but Manual’s Thompson responded with a three-pointer.
The Crimsons’ Malachi Towns (#2, 10) then scored off a rebound and then blocked a shot from Male.
Male then scored from short by the basket and Manual’s Towns responded with a three-pointer.This made the score 18-15, with Male in the lead.
During one play, Thompson first stole the ball from the Bulldogs, there was then a scuffle for it back by Male. The Bulldogs then scored another point off the regained possession.
Male’s offense later dribbled the ball down the court, successfully shooting a three-pointer. Manual’s Jesiah Flippins (#5, 9) then responded with a three-point shot of his own.
With Male possession of the ball, Manual’s defense fought and took the ball back, with another attempted three-pointer by Manual’s Towns.
That attempt ended the half with the Bulldogs leading 31-22.
Second Half:
To start out the second half of the game, the Bulldogs made a three-point shot.
A foul was then called on Manual, and Male headed to the free-throw line, where both free throws were made. This was followed by a Male foul on Manual’s Stephens, who made both of his free throws.
The Crimsons’ Thompson came out with yet another three-point shot, attempting to stop Male’s lead.
There was then another foul called on Manual.Male then made both free throws. This increased the score to 46-30, with the Bulldogs still leading.
Male then scored off a rebound, followed by a layup.
Though the Crimsons were still down, the offense tried to make up for the lack of scoring. Manual’s Stephens scored from shot and Xavier Darden (#10, 9) scored a three-pointer.
At the end of the game, there was a foul made against Manual’s Zeine Abderrahmane (#15, 11). Abderrahmane stepped up to the line and made one of his free throws.
The JV rivalry game ended with a Bulldogs win of 65-41.
“Unfortunately it was the last game of the season for the JV, but overall it was a good season. Overall I think we end up with two losses, something like 12-2, 14-2. But overall it was a good season, today just wasn’t our best effort,” JV Coach Dion Flippins said.
