Softball team begins conditioning

The Lady Crimsons began conditioning last Tuesday Sept. 18 for their upcoming softball season. They currently meet after school four times a week on Manual’s field.

The group is composed of everyone who plans to try out for the softball team in February. “I think we’re going to be a lot better this year as we have freshman coming in that have a lot of talent as a group,” says Clare Hachten (10), who was on the team last year.

Starting in October, the Lady Crimsons will work out in the weights room and on the track, but for now, they are focusing primarily on the fundamentals of the game.

The girls are starting a few weeks earlier than last season, in order to have more experience working with each other, and to be well prepared to get back into the regularity of softball.

In terms of team goals for this spring, “I’d definitely say [beating] Male. We came really close to beating them in the district tournament last year but couldn’t quite pull out the win,” says Hachten. “We haven’t won it in a long time so that’s really our main goal,” returning player Samantha Klein (11) adds.

“We have some pretty big goals, but if we work hard, we could really turn them into reality,” tells Kelly Riggs (10), another returning player.
