Mr. David Mike, principal of Male High School, is being criticized by students and parents alike for allegedly proposing to cut three counseling positions and threatening to remove teachers.
The school is also under investigation by the ACT organization for alleged violations of testing procedures during the COMPASS exam.
According to a WDRB story, parents aired their concerns about these allegations at a special 7 a.m. Site-Based Decision Making Council meeting on Friday May 9.
Male students have their own ideas about addressing these issues, according to the person operating the Anonymous Bulldog Twitter account. Over 400 “SAVE MALE HIGH” wristbands were distributed to students on Friday and some students are discussing the possibility of organizing a walkout.
On Wednesday, May 7, another anonymous member of the Male community sent an email listing issues regarding the principal.
The email included examples of Mike’s alleged statements regarding students, parents, and teachers. Contact information for the Kentucky Department of Education and JCPS Superintendent Dr. Donna Hargens was also included, encouraging parents to notify the appropriate parties in order to properly address the issues.
“I just want peace at Male,” said Shelby Sanders, a sophomore at Male. “There are too many students and staff worried about this situation instead of upcoming finals and EOCs. My hope for Male’s future is to overcome this problem and come to a reasonable agreement that works for everyone.”
