On January 15, Stealth Indoor Field Hockey Facility opened at 1800 Elite Drive. It offers competitive and noncompetitive teams for girls from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Coach Liz Lewis, Director of Field Hockey Operations, is also head coach of varsity field hockey at Sacred Heart Academy. Coach Lewis has been named Kentucky Coach of the Year twice as well as West Region Coach of the Year twice.
“Coach Lewis takes the best because she wants to win,” Sacred Heart field hockey player Sara Aschbacher (12) said.
“My coach and the rest of our team think it’s pretty shady because it’s run by SHA (Sacred Heart Academy) and the players are required to join, so it’s like year-round practice,” Anna Dryden (11) said.
“It seems unfair because they’re with their regular coach and so they may be doing a lot of stuff that their school needs to work on rather than general skills,” Marian Hillebrand (11) said.
“I chose to play with Stealth because of how organized they are and I love the coaches. I don’t think it gives SHA an unfair advantage because Coach Lewis doesn’t actually coach us. The main coaches for my team are from Assumption and Ballard. Stealth is open to girls from all schools but I just think it may take a while to grow and for the skepticism to go away,” said Sacred Heart senior and Stealth player Katherine English.
