Crimson bowlers strike down competition

This past weekend the Manual boys’ bowling team won the Regional Tournament behind strong performances from Garret Hillerich (12), Jordan Roth (11), and Dave Carroll (11). The boys were runners up in last year’s regional tournament, and went on to win the state title. The state tournament will begin March 19th in Lexington, Kentucky. The individual regional bowling tournament was also held Sunday, and out of the eight bowlers competing at the state tournament, Manual will be sending three. Garret Hillerich, his brother Kiefer Hillerich, and Jordan Roth will all be representing the Crimsons. The Manual girls’ bowling team failed to advance to the state tournament.

Senior captain Garret Hillerich was recently named Bowler of the Year and has turned down numerous bowling scholarships to West Coast schools in order to be closer to home during his college years. “I could’ve gone out to California to bowl in college, but I didn’t want to travel that far,” says Garret.

When asked about the state tournament, Garret exuded confidence: “I think we have a really good shot at winning state. We’re 50 pins above our team’s average from last year and we ended up winning state. If we all show up physically and mentally prepared there is no reason why we can’t repeat.”
