This Week in Manual Academics: Nov. 13-18

Academic Teams 

On Saturday, Manual’s Quick Recall team placed first overall in the Junior Varsity challenge state tournament with 13 points. In addition, several Manual students also placed in the written assessment portion of the competition.

Manual’s Jane Hu (10, MST) placed first in mathematics, Lilly Gonzales (10, MST) placed first in science, Justin Xu (9, MST) placed first in language arts, Murari Srinivasan (9, MST) placed first in arts and humanities and Shreeya Arora (9, MST) placed first in composition.

Manual placed first in overall standing at the event by a score of 98 points. Manual topped the second place team by 62.5 points. The full list of scores can be found on the KAAC’s website.

RAMdom Acts of Kindness Club

The RAMdom Acts of Kindness club held a toiletry drive this past week to benefit the Center for Women and Families. In conjunction with YPAS and the Born this Way Foundation, the club collected items leading up to a drawing for Lady Gaga concert tickets. Riley Fussenegger (9, YPAS) won the three tickets provided by the BTW Foundation.

Students from several different schools will meet this week to pack the items donated. The RAMdom Acts of Kindness club is also facilitating exam week care packages that can be purchased by Nov. 30 to alleviate stress during December exam week.

Visual Arts Senior Show 

The first VA Senior show “Chromatic” will open this week starting on Nov. 15th. The opening ceremony will be Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m. The show will run until Dec. 1.

YPAS Performances

YPAS will put on a production of Sophisticated Ladies this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets range between $10 and $15 and can be purchased from YPAS’ website.

Crimsons Against Cancer 

The Crimsons Against Cancer club is hosting a yoga night at Exhale Yoga Wednesday Nov. 15 at 7:15 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door and all proceeds will go towards ending pediatric cancer.

Crimson Sound

The Crimson Sound will hold its second annual chili cook off on Friday, Nov. 17 in the Manual Cafeteria at 5:30 p.m. The admission cost is $10.

Scholarship Month

November is National Scholarship Month. Manual’s guidance office has a website and Twitter feed filled with information on different scholarship opportunities.

Chess Team 

Manual’s Chess Team defeated Male on Nov. 9th by a score of 5-0.
