The varsity field hockey team shut out the Butler Bears Wednesday evening, 11-0.

First Half

The Crimsons came out strong right when the clock started, their communication on the field intensifying the energy and flow of the game. Defender Caroline Toler (#24, 12) touched on the team’s performance after the game.

“I liked the intensity that we brought tonight, we played really well together,” she said.

Ball movement, offensive movement and strong defense left Butler with little to no time of possession, leaving them scoreless.

The offense was strong for the Lady Crimsons with Macy Carmony (#15, 12) scoring twice, a hat trick for Kaylise Watson (#7,11), two more from Taylor Clark (#11,12) and Ellie Neil (#6, 12) along with single goals from Sophie Young (#13,11) and Carmen Maudlin (#2,11).

By the end of the first half, Manual was up 11-0. A mercy rule took effect, ending the game.

According to CSAA Louisville, “If and when a team is ahead by 10 or more at halftime or goes ahead by 10 after the start of the second half, the mercy rule takes effect and the game is final.”

Head Coach Brittany Vencill was satisfied with the outcome of the game.

“Executing passes and communication between one another in the different lines,” Coach Vencill said what she thought were the keys to the Crimson’s success on the field.

Coach Vencill compared the Crimson’s performance against Butler to their recent face off against South Oldham at the home opener. “We wanted to take care of the ball and score often and early, [after] Monday night’s nonregional game coming off of a weekend, so I thought that we played pretty well and pick up on our communication and we did a good job adjusting from Monday to today,” Vencill commented.

When Vencill was asked about how the girls will continue to improve until their next game, she simply stated, “the basics.”

The Lady Crimsons’ next game is Thursday, September 8th against rival Male High School.
