Last week, Executive Council announced a second Red/White week for Manual ahead of both the girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams playing Louisville Male High School on Friday, Feb. 20.
Red/White Week has been a long-standing annual tradition at Manual during the week leading up to the “Old Rivalry” football game against Male. However, it hasn’t recently happened again in the spring for basketball.
“I learned that this has been done before but was canceled due to lack of participation, but I am hoping that it will catch on this year, so next year will be even better,” said Executive Council officer Arabella Corely (12, HSU).
The week of the Feb. 20 will only be a three-day week for students, so the Red/White week themes will only span from Wednesday to Friday.
Wednesday’s theme will be “mathlete v.s. athlete,” Thursday’s theme will be “2016” and Friday’s theme will be “school colors class wars,” where seniors and juniors are asked to wear red and sophomores and freshmen are asked to wear white. The dress code still applies for all of these days. Students and staff are encouraged to take the upcoming long weekend to prepare their outfits due to the short notice of the week.
Traditional Red/White Week activities, like the carnival and Ramstock after school, will not occur. The first floor will be decorated with balloons, but the other two floors will not be as they usually are during the fall Red/White Week.
The girls’ basketball team will play Male at 5:45, and the boys will follow at 7:30. Tickets for Friday’s games will be available for $10 in the main office throughout the week, or on GoFan. Crimson Cards will also be valid as tickets.
