On Tuesday night, the varsity girls’ lacrosse team won 11-0 against the Atherton High School Ravens.
Before the game, the team held their senior night ceremony. The seniors, Nora Ruscoe (#7, 12), Jasmine Smith (#8, 12), Noa Weiss (#9, 12), Sarudzai Charasika (#12, 12), Samantha Cole (#13, 12), Stella Hunter (#14, 12), Madelynn Thonen (#19, 12), Molly Burke (#24, 12), Lola Thompson (#33, 12), Liza Kallik (#42, 12), Laurel Senninger (#51, 12) and Kaitlyn Dugan (#53, 12), walked alongside their friends and family to be recognized.
First half:
The game began with the Lady Crimsons taking the first draw, spearheaded by Charasika and Smith. Shortly after, Atherton had a successful turnover. After a couple plays, Kallik got possession of the ball and passed to Cole. Cole then received a yellow card for a crease violation.
Weiss and Charasika attempted to score but both were unsuccessful. Kallik got a hold of the ball but went out of bounds. Ruscoe gained possession but didn’t score, Charasika was next to get the ball, but the Ravens crashed her. Cole proceeded to have two shots on goal, both of which were unsuccessful.
Ruscoe made the first goal of the night, with three minutes left in the first quarter. Charasika won the second draw for Manual, but Atherton was quick to take possession. Senninger was able to get the ball back and pass to Cole but missed her shot. Ruscoe made a quick comeback scoring again.
Charasika was at the third draw, but Atherton got possession. The Ravens then received a foul for pushing Smith. The last goal in the first quarter was made by Dugan, securing the Lady Crimsons a 3-0 lead.
To start the second quarter, Charasika won the draw and scored for the Lady Crimsons. Hayden Moore (#10, 11) took over the next draw and secured the ball. Cole ran to the crease and scored another goal. After a series of passes between Grace Yates (#23, 11) and Hunter, the Lady Crimsons try to score again, followed by an attempt from Weiss.
The Ravens took over the field, creating good passes between them and lots of turnovers. Hunter was able to intercept and steal the ball for the Lady Crimsons. Kallik got shooting space allowing her to score her first goal from there.
Moore went up for the draw and won possession. With three minutes left in the first half Hunter secures a goal for Manual. Moore went up for the draw again and fought hard for possession, eventually Kallik took the ball and ran down the field. Shortly after, she received a foul for pushing.
Following some good passes between the Lady Crimsons, Smith got shooting space and scored. Dugan went up for the draw, but the first half ended shortly after with the score in favor of Manual 8-0.
Second half:
Manual had Kallik take the first draw of the second half, but Atherton won it. The Ravens threw two back-to-back shots at goal, but Sydney Klinglesmith (#49, 10) blocked them both, they proceeded to have their ball go out of bounds and fouled Cole.
Burke then had a crease violation, but that didn’t slow her down because a few plays later she scored. Atherton won the draw that followed, despite a tough battle made by the Lady Crimsons. Weiss took a shot at goal, but it was blocked by Atherton’s goalie. The third quarter ended 9-0, in favor of the Lady Crimsons.
To start the final quarter, Charasika was back on draw, but didn’t win the ball. In a slight turn of events, Ally Hamilton (#44, 10) received a red card after a Ravens player got injured. Atherton got shooting space, but Klinglesmith cleared the ball. Manual continued on a high, with Cole scoring to make the score 10-0.
Ruscoe got shooting space but missed and Suzetta Fuller (#3, 11) got the rebound. Shortly after, Cole scored again, which was the final goal of the night, making the score 11-0. Following the draw, Smith received a yellow card. Weiss tried to secure another goal for the Lady Crimsons, but her shot was blocked and rebounded.
With one minute left in the game, another Ravens player got injured and was escorted out of the game. Manual continued to try and score to the last second, with Senninger getting the last bit of action in the game. The game ended with a 11-0 score, for the Lady Crimsons.
