On March 21, 2011 Louisville’s Rubbertown had an explosion at one of its plants. Officials have warned everyone within a one mile radius of the plant to stay indoors and if anyone is outdoors, to get away as fast as possible. They are also issuing a warning for residents of that area to shut off their air-conditioners. Three people have been taken to the hospital. Emergency crews were called to the scene around 5:40 pm.

“My dad was at work when the explosion happened and lives close to Rubbertown,” said Marie Nazari (12). “We had to call him to tell him that the roads were closed, but he got through.”

UPDATE: The all clear was given Monday evening for residents near the plant, although emergency crews will remain on the scene of the explosion and fire. According to WAVE 3 reporter Charles Gazaway, four people have now been taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from fair to critical.

WAVE 3 reporter Jon Chrisos said there is no danger to residents in neighborhoods around the plant. Hazardous warning reports cautioning residents to remain indoors and keep windows shut were sent in error, according to authorities, and there was no need for such precautions. Yet firefighters will remain on the scene throughout the night.
