On the Sidelines: Manual baseball has two college commitments

The Manual baseball team has two seniors who have committed to play college ball: best friends, and partners in crime, Harrison Scanlon and Ben Hachten have both made their college decisions.

Scanlon: Harrison committed to Western Kentucky University this past summer. WKU is a division 1 program that competes in the Sun Belt Conference. Harrison will be on a 60% scholarship. I’m sure his parents are real happy. Harrison had a 65% scholarship offer at Eastern Kentucky and was also talking to the coaches from University of Louisville and Missouri. However, Harrison felt WKU was right for him. “They had started to recruit me hard and make me feel wanted in their program. I went on an unofficial visit and fell in love with the campus and the top of the line facilities,” Scanlon said. Harrison plans on staying true to his word and signing with WKU. “I committed on July 11 and ever since then I haven’t had a doubt that Western is where I fit in and want to go,” said Scanlon.

Hachten: Ben committed to Truman State on September 9th. Truman State is located in Kirksville, Missouri. Truman State is a division 2 school that plays in the MIAA. Ben committed shortly after his visit to Kirksville because he felt it was the right place for him. “It is a great fit both athletically and academically. The coach is great and has a big vision for the program which is getting better every year. The players were all welcoming on my visit and made me feel at home,” Hachten said. Ben chose Truman over offers from Davidson, UMES, Northeastern, and Lake Erie College.

Other senior baseball players could end up playing college ball, but only these two are committed so far. Alec Dunn, Aaron Pearcy, Andrew Olson, Sam Harper, and Nathan (Big Love) Smith are still in the middle of the recruiting process.
