Vagabond Holiday Art Market will take place on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at FirstBuild, a makerspace at 333 E Brandeis Ave. The event will feature over 20 local artists, live demonstrations and an art supply swap. Food and beverages will be available.
The market emphasizes the importance of supporting local artists, especially amidst the growth of AI-created media. Attendees will have the opportunity to view and purchase a variety of artworks and products at booths from vendors such as Ozmade Studio’s pop-culture art, photographer Tascha Sodan’s original photos and the Creep Doll Emporium’s metalwork and doll assemblage.
The event is also meant to promote its venue, FirstBuild, “a destination for makers who are fueled by a relentless drive to create what’s next through co-creation with you, its community,” according to the website. The group posts new ideas, such as the “Countertop Freezer Dryer,” on the website so people in the community can provide feedback. Inventors at FirstBuild use these responses when developing prototypes, which are often crowdfunded. Besides product development, FirstBuild also serves as a place where people can create at a free makerspace and participate in classes and clubs.
Attending the market would be beneficial for high school students interested in the arts and STEM fields. Young artists could gain inspiration from local creators, exchange art supplies and possibly sell their work at the market in the future. Teen inventors can visit the market to learn more about the opportunities offered at FirstBuild.
The market is for all ages and free to attend. Information about the event can be found on Instagram.
