On Dec. 19, the Justice Department (DOJ) released thousands of documents pertaining to the Jeffrey Epstein case. These included court records, photographs, interview notes and other files. However, many have criticized the DOJ for heavily redacting the files, not releasing all of them as the Epstein Files Transparency Act required and for seemingly removing a photo featuring President Donald Trump from the database.
“In view of the Congressional deadline, all reasonable efforts have been made to review and redact personal information pertaining to victims, other private individuals, and protect sensitive materials from disclosure,” the Epstein Library website reads.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer released a statement following the release disparaging the redactions and promising that Senate Democrats are working to make sure the Trump administration is held accountable.
“Simply releasing a mountain of blacked out pages violates the spirit of transparency and the letter of the law. For example, all 119 pages of one document were completely blacked out. We need answers as to why,” Schumer’s statement said.
The files can be viewed on the DOJ’s Epstein Library website here.
