Get ready for bright lights, pop songs and witty humor in “SIX: The Musical” Teen Edition with Cool Mountain Theatre at NoCo Arts Center in Jeffersonville, Ind. With an outstanding cast, stunning special effects and a powerful message, the show told the story of Henry VIII’s six wives as they compete through music to determine which one is the most important.
The “Spicy” cast consisted of Maya Bonifer (10, YPAS) as Catherine of Aragon, Grace Cuenca (11, YPAS) as Anne Boleyn, BrookLynn Bowman (10, YPAS) as Jane Seymour, Ava Medley (10, YPAS) as Anna of Cleves, Lucy Stack (10, YPAS) as Katherine Howard and Sophie Mudd (10, YPAS) as Catherine Parr.
The actresses brought their characters to life through exceptional performances. Bonifer skillfully took the stage as the first wife to persuade the audience she was the most relevant queen. Up next, spirited and bold Cuenca took the role of Anne Boleyn by storm. Medley put on an energetic performance as she danced and interacted with the audience in “Get Down.” Bowman exhibited her strong vocals in the emotional ballad “Heart of Stone.” Stack skillfully captured Katherine Howard’s confident, audacious personality. In her solo, Mudd displayed a wide range of emotions as she detailed the losses and triumphs of Catherine Parr’s life.
Colorful strobe lights illuminated the actresses’ intricate costumes and makeup as they danced across the stage. The lighting, managed by light board operator Collin Medley (10, YPAS), was a product of cutting-edge technology from Candle and Switch and the new Icarus Wireless sACN Gateway.
The show didn’t only benefit the audience; it was also a great opportunity for the cast to bond.
“My favorite part of being in the show was definitely growing closer to my classmates. They’re all such wonderful people, and they really helped to build a fantastic environment,” Ava Medley said.
The musical was a stunning showcase of talent. It ran from Nov. 14 to 16, with performances from both the “Spicy” cast and the “Sweet” cast. Cool Mountain Theatre will be putting on more “Teen Edition” productions in the future.
